Top Three Interviews

My top three interviews were Jonathon Gerry, Jonathan Madden, and Hua Gong. These interviews stood out to me the most because of there good quality. These interviews had every part of the process very well detailed.

Best Interview: Jonathon Gerry http://jonathongen191f12s27.blogspot.com/
This interview scored high than others because of its detail. This person took the extra time to go the extra mile to make it the best. It had all of the required input and then some. I thought that they really put a lot of time into transcribing the interview. They also did a very good job at writing the country report.

Second Best Interview: Jonathan Madden http://jonathanmen191f12s27.blogspot.com/
This interview was also written very well. It had a very good transcrpt and very good before and after the interview thoughts. You really learned a lot from the country report. They had their transcript written out very easy to read and the blog was very nicely laid out.

Third Best Interview: Hua Gong http://huagongs.blogspot.com/
The best thing about this interview was the country report. It was extremely detailed and well outlined. It talked about many topics and they all had something to do with the questions that were asked.

Interview Transcript

Me:        What is the value of family in Australia?
Brogan:                                The value of family is very important to us. I fell like that it means a lot more to us than it does to many Americans.
Me:        What is your family structure like?
Brogan:                                Both parents are viewed to be more as equals. I notice that you all think the men should be the ones who bring all the money home. We do not really share that idea. Everyone shares the home jobs. There is no men work and women stay home to watch children and clean.
Me:        How does your home culture differ from the United States?
Brogan:                                Well considering Australia does not have a large gap between rich and poor people, our wages are higher. We seem to get paid nearly double what Americans do. Our cost of living however is higher as well.
Me:        What are some highlights people think of when they think of Australia? Could you also tell me about a little history?
Brogan:                                History is not really my thing. So I do not have much to tell you about that. When most people think about Australia they think about putting another shrimp on the bar-b. We have a bunch of famous monuments and stuff like that as well. Again I am just not into crap like that.
Me:        What is the most famous food in Australia?
Brogan:                                Oh hands down that would be Vegemite.
Me:        What are your meals like?
Brogan:                                We do tend to eat a lot healthier and smaller than most Americans. We eat about five or six times during the day, but much smaller meals.
Me:        What is the education like?
Brogan:                                Personally I feel like we have a great education system. Once you finish you schooling which is considered high school here, you are very much prepared for college.
Me:        Do a lot of people get to attend college?
Brogan:                                Yes, most people do choose to attend college. I wanted to attend because unlike here in America college is easier to get into and a lot easier to afford. We do not have so many things to pay for when it comes to school. It is also much simpler I have noticed since I have been here.
Me:        What are some of the top three social past times?
Brogan:                                Well we do not get as big into sports as you American’s seem too with everything. We do however love to watch out Rugby and Soccer. Many local pubs will have games on for you to watch. I personally like to go and listen to outdoor musical festivals.
Me:        What are the different religions in Australia?
Brogan:                                I do not care to talk about religion because I am an atheist.
Me:        What are some holidays that you celebrate in Australia, and how do you celebrate them?
Brogan:                                We celebrate many holidays that you do. Like my family celebrates Christmas. We do it a little differently however. It seems like all Americans ever think about when it comes to holidays is gifts. We cherish our time with our families a lot more. We would rather sit down and have a big meal with love ones over opening expensive gifts.
Me:        What is the main reason you came to the U.S.?
Brogan:                                We hear a lot about the United States all the time. It seemed like it would be a fun time and I would get to experience how you live. Since everything is cheaper here I am really enjoying it.

Post Interview

After the interview was completed, I felt a huge relief. I was nervous just as any other person would be. I feel like I learned a lot about Australia and picked up on some key knowledge that I will be able to use in the future. I had a great interviewee who was a blast to work with.

Pre Interview

Right before I had my interview I was nervous. I have only been to one interview in my life and it was simple. I have no experience on giving interviews to people. I know the person I am interviewing personally because she is one of my roommates.

Country Report

Australia is the sixth largest country by total area. It's surrounding countries include; Indonesia, Papua Guinea, Vanuata and New Zealand. It has the world's 12th largest economy and the world's sixth highest per capita income. Almost 23 million people live there. They eat kangaroo like we eat and hunt for deer in Minnesota.

Challenges and Benefits of interviewing an international student

While interviewing and international student you will run across challenges and benefits. Depending on the country there might be more challenges then benefits. One of the major challenges will be understanding each other. There are many international students who do not speak English very well. So while you are interviewing them, you may not be able to pick up on everything they are saying. Also it may not be easy for them to understand you if they are not familiar with the way you talk. Some other difficulties would be that you do not really know the terminology of the other country, so some things in English may mean other things in different countries. One major thing will be that you will need to be careful about is saying something that could offend them in anyway. That is why you need to learn up on the country so you know what is okay to talk about and what subjects are not. This will help you in being able to compare the United States to their home country. Along with these challenges, there are also benefits.

There are also many benefits when interviewing an international student. For starters you get to meet new people. This could lead to many new friendships as well. Then you also get to learn more about another country that you may have never studied before. If you go into the interview with some prior knowledge, then you will have a much smoother interview. Picking up knowledge is always a great thing for college students. If you go into the interview open minded it will also help a lot. While doing an interview you can also help give the interviewee a little bit of understanding about you and your country. While you post your interview you can also be helping other people learn about this country as well.

library Book

I selected my book from the library because I would like to learn more about my Irish Heritage.
My book has one author.
The title of the book I chose is Irish Heritage.
The book was printed by W. Tempest, Dundalgan Press.
The book was printed in Dundalk in 1963, 8th impression.

The book Irish Heritage was written by E.E.Evans. He is the sole author of this book as well. It was printed by W. tempest at Dundalgan Press in Dundalk in 1963. It is also the 8th impression of the book. I selected this book because I would love to learn more about my heritage. Someday I would love to go over and visit Ireland. The ideal time I would love to go is during St. Patrick's Day. This is an important holiday because, "It is regarded as the proper time to commence sowing"(Evans 154). For Irish people it is very important to get potatoes planted as soon as possible. Being Irish I would love to go and see how it is done someday.
